A few years ago, I saw Dr. Gunther Von Hagens's Body Worlds, an exhibit I beileve is practically identical to BODIES (I'm assuming a plastinated cadaver is a plastinated cadaver, regardless of who does the plastinating). I attended Body Worlds as part of a high school biology field trip at the time, it was an excused absence from school, and as such, an absolute must see. From what I remember, class opinion was divided between Dude, this is the coolest thing, like, ever, and This is soooo gross. I beileve I was caught somewhere in the middle. The bodies are gross, sure, and yet, there's something strangely beautiful about them. The plastinates are these very literal interpretations of the surrealist exquisite corpse. I think, to peel back your skin and stare at your insides, well, it's an oddly compelling thing. Definitely a goose-bump raising experience. Perhaps it's that feeling of horrible fascination that accounts for the exhibit's popularity.
